They are simply family! We put love in every detail, from food to exercise. This attention to detail doesn't stop with us. When we are away it is important to find some one to take care of our babies who have the same love for our little ones. Here are some hiring tips when your choosing a prospective pet sitter:

Ask to see proof of current insurance and/or bonding.

Ask for client references and testimonials and verify them.

Find out how long has the pet sitter been in business.

Make sure to know what experience they may have as a pet sitter.

Do they know animal first aid and CPR?

What are the sitter's emergency procedures?

Sitter should ask for your pet’s routine:eating, sleeping, potty breaks, walking, exercise, medications, medical history, hiding places, favorite toys, frequent problems ,vaccination history, your veterinarian’s place of business and telephone number.

How long will the sitter visit?

Ask how you will communicate in case of an emergency.

Trust your gut. These days, the problem of obesity seems to have run over from our cup into the lives of our pets. More and more I see owners walking around with obese dogs.
It’s not that the owners don’t love and adore their pets. They even pamper them with cute little dog costumes at Halloween and sweaters for their dogs at Christmas. However, the precious little pooch that is overweight will have a shorter lifespan no matter how many clothes are in his closet. Sox’s vet said that he needed to lose one or two pounds. This doesn’t sound like much, but considering Sox was a total of 13 pounds, that’s almost ten percent of his body weight.

If it were me, that would mean losing 15 pounds, which would take a lot of work. We tried many different kinds of dog chow with no real success. We tried limiting his daily serving to the lowest amount possible, and that only made him hungrier. During this last food recall, we started making all of our dogs’ food from scratch. It took getting used to the extra work. We have to cook a bunch of rice and veggies, which takes some time. Then, we had to cook a bunch of chicken and pull it off the bone which is labor intensive. Now, we actually feed them a recipe of rice, lentils, mixed vegetables and boiled eggs. It’s faster and easier to make and they are thriving on it. The important thing is that as soon as we started making their own food, Sox lost the weight and is now healthier than ever. Our oldest dog, Jaz, used to have numerous bowel movement problems and those have gone away as well. I strongly suggest looking into making your own dog food and looking up treat recipes for their optimal health.

How we finally house trained our Chihuahua

Coco, our youngest Chihuahua baby (pictured at left in a pink collared shirt), is just now getting to a point where we can call him house broken. Unfortunately, it took a year and a half, whereas it didn’t seem to take that long with our other Chihuahuas. He got to where he was pee pad trained pretty quickly, but he sort of stalled. I think being a little dog it’s not always pleasant to go outside, especially in cold New Jersey winter.
So, he would just pee inside and save himself from having to endure going outdoors. We bundled him up in a small dog sweater and a small dog coat, and that did help a lot. He would finally start going on walks with the other dogs, but I could tell he wanted nothing more than to get back indoors as soon as possible. He wasn’t focused on doing his business at all.

This led to many gross problems, not the least of which was the stink from dirty pee pads. Our oldest and largest dog, a Labrador and Maltese mix, had taken on the bad habit of eating Coco’s feces from the papers. I read that sometimes wolves in the wild will do this as a way of keeping inferior members of the pack from leaving their mark on the territory. Whatever the case, it’s just plain nasty. Now we’ve started strictly crate training him; we only let him out of the crate when it’s time for his walk. It seems to be finally working, and we were finally able to take up the pee pads. Also, there’s no more poop eating…yeah. Coco likes being secure in his space most of the time; after all, he’s perfectly bred for cute small dog carriers, right?

Wendy, the muscled whippet dog

Wendy, pictured at left, is a dog from the whippet breed, normally known for its slender appearance and lean muscles. Obviously, Wendy is not a normal whippet. Due to a genetic condition, Wendy’s body has become extremely muscled instead of the expected sleek design. There’s no dog clothes for this amazing girl, though I’d bet she’d love a good massage.
This genetic anomaly has gained her fame, though. She recently appeared on The Today Show in Manhattan. She was cheered on by her fans and received petting by Al Roker and company. Her owner, Ingrid Hansen, thinks she liked the free steak the best, though. They were doing a bit about how to cook steak, so Wendy lucked out for her show date.

If you have a dog that is naturally broad chested, like a bulldog or pit bull, it can be difficult to get clothing that fits. Dog shirts and sweaters can work in larger sizes because the material often stretches. The problem is that larger sizes can be too long. If this is the case, buy a larger size and then hem the bottom, just as you would a pair of pants that’s too long.

Of course, one piece of dog apparel that will always work no matter what the size of your canine baby are dog boots. They become an essential item during winter months. They can also be useful if your dog has an allergy attack on the skin of their paws. Sometimes grass is treated with pesticides and chemicals that can irritate dogs’ feet, and booties help prevent that.

Wendy certainly got her share of walking around New York City, and plenty of people recognized her just from this picture posted all over the internet and stopped for a picture of their own. Hansen is a proud pet parent that says she thinks Wendy has truly enjoyed all the extra attention. Then again, what pampered pooch doesn’t love getting extra attention, especially on national television.

Dangerous Dog Food

If you've been watching the news, you may have heard about the huge recall for many brands of pet food. Apparently, it has been linked to pet illness and even death by kidney failure. One of the big name brands that we used to feed our dogs was Nutro. For several years, that was what our Chihuahuas ate, and for several years our oldest one, Sox, has suffered from seizures. They've never been so bad that he needs medication, but nevertheless they were scary. Last year, we switched to the Royal Canine Chihuahua 28 brand, and it's been working wonders. Sox's seizures have virtually gone, so even though the news hasn't said anything about the bad food causing problems with the nervous system, I still wonder. Sox is our baby and a great model for small dog clothing, I can't imagine life without him our any of our dogs. This is something that affects all cat and dog owners of all breeds, so take heed and pass the word along. Everyone knows and loves Lassie and still reads the Collie books written in the 1920s and '30s by Albert Payson Terhune.

Little is known with certainty of the origin of the Collie, but his cunningoutward appearance would seem to signify a relationship with the wild dog. Produced from the old working type, they are now practically a distinct breed. They are considered to be the superior in instinct and intelligence to all other breeds, and are actually born perfectly trained for service. The Collie dog makes an excellent sporting dog, and can be taught to do the work of the Pointer and the Setter, as well as that of the Water Spaniel and the Retriever. They are extremely clever with excellent noses perfect for hunting, guarding, yet they are great companion dogs.

As a show dog, the Collie is top quality. He is considered the most tractable, and is certainly the most agile. Attractive and Posied, the Collie truly exceeds most breeds.

The Collie is an active dog poised with stamina, intelligence and freedom. They make excellent pets for both service and companionship.

For more information on dog breeds, dog clothes and dog occassion gifts visit Little Pampered Pets

The History of the Fox Hound

Foxhounds were the very first dogs in Great Britain to come under the domination of scientific breeding. Their origins can be traced as far back as the 13th century. At the end of Cromwell’s war, something different was wanted to specifically hunt the wild deer other than the more ancient dos like the Southern Hound and the Bloodhound. There was a need for a quicker hound. In 1650, when the English Foxhound reach America, they began breeding them to be lighter, faster and taller.

The Foxhound’s head is somewhat broad, not peaked like the Bloodhound. They are long, with very prominent eyebrows and low set ears. Their natural condition is thin and shapely, but not large. This beautiful breed had extremely bright eyes full of expression. Their look is known to be remarkable. Their coat is hard hair, but short and smooth, the texture is as stiff as bristles, but beautifully laid.

Even though they are sweet and affectionate, they have not been primarily bred to be family members. When raised from a puppy they are excellent with both children and other dogs. They do, also, tend to need a lot of exercise and are not recommended for one looking for an “apartment friendly” dog. Without a good deal of exercise, they can become destructive when restless. They are an extremely healthy breed that is basically free of any genetic disease. They must not be overfed because they are prone to obesity. Their average weight is from 55 to 75 pounds with a height of up to 27 inches.

For Big Dog Dresses visit Little Pampered Pets

Chihuahua Clothes

For someone new to buying Chihuahua clothes or clothes for their small dog, it may be a bit difficult to decide what your dog actually needs and what he wants (or more accurately what you want) to have. There’s no need to worry, though, because it's much like picking out clothes for you. The only thing your dog is ever going to need in the way of dog clothes is protection from the weather. This includes sweaters, coats, boots and rain jackets that protect your little baby from extreme cold, ice and rain. Aside from those bare essentials, there are shirts and costumes and well as designer coats that will show off a dog’s style and are fun for the owner.

Different breeds are well suited for different kinds of dog clothes. Small dogs such as Shih-Tzus and Pekingese are perfect for fancy designs because of their uppity demeanor. Ravishing ribbons, fashion bandannas and leather collars and leashes are the best for dressing up these small dogs. Chihuahuas and Miniature Pinschers can pull off the fancy stuff as well as the everyday necessities. Chihuahuas are known to shiver because they constantly lose heat, so they may also need warm Chihuahua clothing for around the house. In that case it needs to look really good against their natural coat and be very comfy. Large dog breeds usually only need clothing under the most extreme circumstances. Unless it’s extremely cold or raining heavily, there’s no need to cover them, but there are shirts and other styles that can go on them just for fun. Each breed has its own needs and style.

It’s important to make sure you have the essential Chihuahua clothes for all seasons as well as clothing for those small breeds that are especially vulnerable to the elements. A small dog sweater is a must for any little one and sometimes needs to be worn inside, too. A small dog coat is also great for those doggies in colder climates or regions smitten with snow. Many little pampered pets won’t even step outside in bad weather without coverings. When picking out small dog clothes, remember that the most important part is to have fun. Pay attention to all the beautiful miniature detail, and have fun expressing yourself and your dog.

Bringing Home a New Kitten or Puppy

One of the most important parts of being a new pet owner is doing the research in how to be a responsible pet owner. Make sure you learn the proper feeding and grooming techniques to care for your little one. Many long-haired breeds require special and constant grooming. Consider whether or not you’re going to groom them yourself or take them to a professional. Remember that smaller breeds need to have their teeth cleaned often, as they are susceptible to tooth decay. Be sure to budget all of this first as it can become very expensive. Most importantly, make sure that your family is pet ready. Take care to especially educate younger children in proper pet care.
There may be a need or a special diet, so learn all that that entails. Puppies always require a special diet of higher calories and protein. Seniors and overweight dogs also have special diets made just for them. It may help to research the breed you are getting and many breeds are predisposed to being overweight. Also, there are some genetic problems associated with many breeds. For example, Chihuahuas have been known to be born with hip and spine defects. Basset Hounds are predisposed to being easily overweight. Finally, don’t forget to pick a cute name!

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Clothes for small dogs : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Clothing for Dogs

Custom Cats: How Genetic Engineering is Changing the World of Pets

When people hear the phrase “genetically modified organism” (GMO), They picture fruits, veggies or grain that’s been altered in some way to be cheaper or produced more abundantly. Plant GMOs are usually made with the purpose of solving hunger problems around the world by producing enough food to feed humanity’s exploding population. However, now the term GMO can be applied to something many of us hold dear in our lives…our pets. The company Allerca Pet Lifestyles from California announced last month that they will be selling kittens next year that have been genetically modified to be hypoallergenic. Humans have altered animal genomes for thousands of years through artificial selection (breeding), and even though this new form of genetic tinkering needs to be thoroughly tested before it’s put up for sale, demand is bringing it rushing into the market.
It is hard for one to argue completely against humans altering other animals’ genomes, especially since we’ve already been doing it for much of our history. Diverse breeds of dogs and cats have arisen over the millennia through human efforts of artificial selection. Natural selection created the wild wolves and dogs from which our domesticated friends descended. One could argue that since we’ve already changed animal DNA to fit our desires and needs, there is nothing unethical about genetically modifying today’s pets. It just accomplishes in one generation what usually takes several generations of breeding. It also creates phenotypes that we might never see arise naturally.
One thing that many people agree on is the need for extensive testing before this technology goes to market. The PETA has argued that there is no way of knowing the long-term effects of genetic engineering on a cat’s genome, and they’re right. To date, no such study has been done proving that genetic engineering is completely safe for any animal. In this particular case, scientists have silenced a gene is cats that produces their most common allergen. The gene still exists, but it’s not able to produce it’s protein. What needs to be done is extensive research over many years to study not only the genetically modified individuals but also their offspring.
In spite of this, there seems to be nothing that can slow the tide of selling GMO pets. Proposed bills that would ban their sale failed in California last year. Though many people protest, GMO pets are coming to market. Hopefully there won’t be too much damage done.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Clothing : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothing and Wholesale Pet Products

The Great Dane

The Great Dane, called the “Apollo of dogs”, exude the perfect balance of strength and elegance. These robust dogs are the tallest of all dogs. Despite their appearance the Great Dane is actually a very gentle giant. They are keenly alert animals whose only fault is shyness or excessive nervousness. They are quick friendly and responsive to the people around them and so make great pets.
The beginnings of the Great Dane are unclear, but they can be seen on some Greek money as ear as 36 B.C. Early Great Danes were also in German Gaul in 407 A.D. as well as Italy and Spain. In Germany, they were crossed with the Irish Greyhound to make the courageous large dogs we know today.
Interestingly enough, despite being called Great Danes, the breed has nothing to do with Denmark. Although Great Danes do not live as long as smaller breeds, they are not prone to as much disease. They also can live well in urban settings as long as they are exercised frequently. This gentle giant is best kept inside rather than outside or in a kennel, and he has many talents including tracking and being an excellent watch dog. All in all, this majestic dog makes a great addition to any family.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes-Dog Coats : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothing-Wholesale Pet Products

American Eskimo

If you’re looking for a loving, relatively low maintenance dog, you have found him. The American Eskimo is a charming loving companion. Contrary to popular belief, they are easier to maintain then most dogs. In fact, they are known to actually clean their faces like cats! Their coat also repels dirt and they have no odor. This beautiful affectionate dog is also known to be excellent around kids, is extremely intelligent and has a very willing spirit.
Nicknamed “Eskie”, the American Eskimos’ origins are unclear. However, most believe they are the descendents of the German Spitz. German Spitz were brought to the US by German settlers. The American Eskimos were spread through the US by Barnum & Baily Circus. In fact, an “eskie” was the first dog ever to walk a tight rope. To those who know the breed, walking a tight rope is no surprise. The American Eskimos display an abundant amount of talents including narcotic detection, superb obedience, guarding, and are wonderful performing artist.
American Eskimos are a healthy breed not known for many disorders. They are playful but gain weight easily if not exercised enough. Moreover, this breed's mix of talent and love is ideal to fit the role of the family dog.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Dog Coats : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothing and Wholesale Pet Products

Yorkshire Terrier

Yorkies are one of the world’s smallest dogs. Although their origins are uncertain, many experts believe they were probably developed by the working men of North England who bred them to catch rats in the mine shafts. They were also used in hunting to penetrate into fox and badger burrows. The first Yorkies were much bigger than the tiny dogs we see today. They were made into a fashion dog by selective breeding throughout the years.
Besides their obvious small size Yorkshire Terriers are eager sweet natured dogs. They are very energetic and adventurous. They are also known to be very intelligent, cunning and stubborn. This explains why they may be hard to house break. Although, most Yorkies are less than 7 lbs, don’t be fooled! This tiny dog can pack a powerful punch. The Yorkie is known to be a great watch dog and may snap is surprised or provoked.
Some Yorkies, like many smaller dogs, are prone to early tooth decay. Feeding them dry food can help keep their teeth strong and healthy. Also, although the “teacup” sizes are all the rage, they are prone to having serious behavior and health problems.
All in all, these tiny characters can catch a mouse, defend a home and be a fashionista all in the same day.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Clothing : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

Smoking and Your Pets

Looking for a reason to quit smoking? The effects of smoking are widely known. It is a fact that smoking causes heart disease, strokes and contributes to a number of cancers. One in two lifetime smokers will die from their habit. Basically, smoking inevitably leads to death. It’s just that simple. What isn’t as widely known is that smoking can also harm your pets as well. In fact, people who smoke could be putting their pets as risk of getting cancer.
Unfortunately, your cat may be most at risk of the developing a preventable disease from your smoking habit. That can develop Feline Lymphoma and Oral Cancer from your second hand smoke. Since cats often groom themselves diligently, cats in smoking households can lick up carcinogens that have been deposited on their fur. Daily grooming over a long period of time can expose the delicate skin in the mouth to hazardous amounts of carcinogens causing Oral Cancer. In addition, the lymph nodes filter the blood, inhaled or ingested carcinogens can build up in these structures, causing Feline Lymphoma. This type of cancer kills three out of every four cats every year.
Man’s best friend is not out of harms way either. In dogs, second hand smoke may cause Nasal Sinus Cancer and in more serious cases Lung Cancer. A study at Colorado State found a higher incidence of nasal cavity tumors in dogs exposed to second hand smoke than in dogs that live in non-smoking households.
These days, pets mean more to some than children. They are extremely loyal and ask for nothing but love in return. Americans spent 34 billion dollars last year to pamper our most beloved pets, while ignoring an overwhelming preventable problem. If your health and the health of the others around you can not persuade you to quit the nasty habit maybe your helpless furry companion can.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Clothing : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

Barking Problems

It is no secret that dogs like to bark, but sometimes it becomes so much that it can hurt relationships with neighbors. This can lead to serious issues such as fines or even lawsuits. Knowing the cause of the excessive barking can go along way to helping solve the problem. Some common causes include:
1)Separation Anxiety
2)Territorial Issues
3)Lack of Activity
Separation anxiety is a major cause of distress for dogs and can lead to such unwanted behaviors such as excessive barking or possibly even aggression. What happens is that the dog comes to depend on it’s master’s presence to be comforted. In the “wolf pack” mentality, the dog is part of a pack consisting of the owner and family. When the dog is left alone, this is like being abandoned by the pack. The dog must learn that his owners will return.
Territorial issues often cause excessive barking. Dogs think that the back alley or side road are all part of their territory and that anyone passing by is intruding and trying to hurt their pack. So, they bark like crazy. This type of barking can cause the most strain between neighbors and so should be corrected as soon as possible.
Lack of activity will frustrate any dog. Dogs are meant to run and play in the open, and often people forget this. Let your dog run and play.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Clothing : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

What's Hot this Season: New Trends in Dog Clothing

It used to be the hot thing to dress parent and child alike. This day and age, however, the child being dressed is four-legged and furry. The younger generation is having less children and satisfying their parental desires with pampered pooches. So, there are a large number of people looking to spoil their dogs and themselves by dishing out the dough on designer dog clothes. Just like human clothing, dog clothing designs get their inspiration on runways around the world and lead many different styles and colors to be the in thing this season.
The inventive colors and designs on models in Milan, Paris and New York have found their way into dog clothing boutiques around the world. Designers have only a short time after the human fashion shows to develop their new lines to go along with what the parents will be wearing. “The dog version of clothing must not only match human styles, it must also be functional for the dog” said Onika Carroll, a designer for Elizabeth Austin. All of these challenges lead to a varied array of dog clothing ranging from the cute and simple to the haute couture.
The different styles that are in this season include an assortment of day and evening wear as well as beach wear. Longer dresses and even ball gowns are going to be hot thanks to the popularity of the TV show “Dancing with the Stars”. The good news for retailers is and customers is that there is a wide variety of gowns and dresses to fit anyone’s taste. Colors like pink, lilac and lime green are strong this season, and polka dots and floral designs are prominent as well. Another fashion choice that should be popular is having sequins or appliqués of hearts and butterflies. Pooch parents want their girl dogs to be dainty and their boy dogs to be cool or tough. A very popular print this season for boys and some girls is anything camouflage. The bottom line is, there’s going to be plenty for everyone to choose what style fits them and their baby best.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Clothing : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

How Much Should Dog Clothes Cost?

The dog clothes industry has exploded over the past few years, and like anything popular it’s easy to pay too much without noticing. So how much should the average consumer expect to pay for their dog’s wardrobe? If you want to go a step higher, how much should the store owner pay wholesale for dog clothing? Since the industry is so new, it’s not as if there’s a huge precedent set to answer these questions, but figuring it out is quite simple. Whether you’re a store owner or consumer, the cost of dog clothes depends upon the quality and availability of each piece.
There are thousands of manufacturers all over the world that make dog clothing, so the quality of the clothing depends on how good the manufacturer is. Common sense rules that higher quality clothes cost more to make and thus are more expensive, but there’s still a large difference in price depending on what country the clothes are made in. That’s why so many products in the US are made in China. An expensive piece of clothing there is cheap by American standards. No matter what the case may be, if you’re deciding whether or not the price is right, be sure to closely inspect the clothing. Look at all the stitching or knitting to see if it’s durable.
Think about how long it will last and how heavily it can be used. These are all general ways of determining if a price is good, but some may want a specific guideline. This can be very tough to determine, but what can be said is that no piece of dog clothing should retail for more than $40. That just applies to the thicker items like coats; for things like shirts the price shouldn’t be more than $25. Wholesale is too tricky to predict because so much bargaining goes on in that level. All in all, just trust your gut instinct and don’t be ripped off.
The availability of an item will have great influence on its price. For example, big companies can buy thousands of each piece of dog clothing which is why so often their clothing goes for much cheaper. The smaller stores may not be able to do this, but they will have a different selection than the big competitors and better quality (ideally). Anyway, remember to take this into consideration when deciding how much is too much. You have to ask yourself, “how common is this style?” It may be super cheap but will every dog on the block have the same piece. If something is less available, your dog will have a better chance of looking unique. The most important thing to remember in all of this is to do your research and to not get ripped off buying something that shouldn’t be too expensive.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Clothing : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

Affordable Boutique Dog Clothes

If you were to take a step into some fancy pet boutiques in New York City, then you might do a double take at the prices. It is not unusual at all to find coats the size of a person’s arm going for at least $60, and sometimes even more. Is it worth paying that much for dog clothes? Some say an emphatic yes and even boast about how much they spend on dressing their dog. That’s all well and good if you have the extra dough to throw around, but for the rest of us it doesn’t make sense to spend that much money. So can the average person get boutique clothes without breaking the bank? The good news is that it is possible to get boutique quality clothes at an affordable price.
The first step to finding affordable boutique quality clothes for your dog is simple…don’t go to a boutique. Sure they’re pretty and well decorated, but you’re going to pay for the ambiance. The problem is you might not find what you want at a cheaper big name store like PetSmart or PetCo. So where do you go? Online. The internet stores have a much lower overhead than brick-and-mortar stores, so they can charge less for the fancy fashions. Simply go to one of the major search engines and start looking. You will find there are literally millions of sites selling dog clothing, so you have plenty from which to choose.
However, you do need to be careful of where you choose to buy. There are easy ways to tell if an online store is a good choice for you aside from looking at prices. Make sure they have a return/exchange policy, and make sure you understand it. Take a look at the site itself. Does it look neat and well maintained? Do they update they’re inventory information regularly? Do they make it easy to contact them (i.e. they have a phone number and email)? If so, then it’s safe to assume that whoever runs the store is willing to work hard to get and keep you as a customer. The online world of commerce can seem daunting, but it is the perfect place for the average dog-loving consumer to get some great boutique quality dog clothes.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Clothing : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

Picking the Best Clothes for Your Pet

Picking out your dog’s clothes is a process that requires thought and planning. You must start by asking yourself if your baby needs something fun or functional. It’s also good to decide what style will fit their personality. The answers depend on your dog’s physical stature and the time of year. To pick the best clothes, you must measure and asses your dog and pick appropriate attire for the season.
It’s important to measure and assess your dog’s physical attributes to get the clothes that are best for him. One of the most important things to consider is size. Is your dog big or small? Bigger dogs tend to not get as cold as their smaller counterparts. If it’s really cold outside, they will benefit from some cover, but you don’t want to overdo it and make them overheat. Another important factor is coat thickness. For example, Huskies have a coat of thick fur made especially for cold weather, and they’ll rarely if ever need extra protection. All the breeds have differing levels of coat thickness, so examine your dog and use your best judgment on what he needs. If a jacket is going to be too much, then there are many different kinds of sweaters available. Also, you need to determine what kind of clothes your dog will tolerate. For example, will he like having a pullover sweater or a coat that wraps around his body? The wrap coat is faster and easier to put on but doesn’t cover as much of the body. Once you determine all of these things, it’s easy to shop around and find exactly what your furry baby needs.
Depending on the season and weather, the dog clothes need to be either heavy or light. This is common sense, but it helps to keep it in mind when shopping. Stores often have a sale of off season clothing, and it’s good to stock up, but don’t forget the in season pieces. For example, if it’s a rainy spring season, then you should pick out a quality raincoat. Picking the best clothes for your pet can be fun and easy if you follow these simple guidelines.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Clothing : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

Finding the Perfect Outfit for Your Pooch

One of the greatest things about getting dog clothes is it gives you a chance to show off your dog’s personality. You already know how special your dog is, and now you have a way of expressing that to the world. Also, something that non-pet owners don’t understand is that when you are a dog lover, your pet is like an extension of yourself. So, anything you do to pamper them gives you just as much happiness. When you’re shopping for dog clothes, there are two things to look for: matching clothes to your dog’s personality and coordinating the clothes to your style.
With the wide variety of dog clothing out there, it’s easy to find something that expresses your furry baby’s personality. There are many cute dog shirts with sayings on them. You can find everything from “love me” to “bad to the bone”, as well as countless others. If you’re not into message shirts, there are plenty of styles of shirts, jackets and coats that can represent your little tough guy or your refined little lady.
Another fun thing to do when shopping for dog clothes is to coordinate your dog’s wardrobe with your own. If you look at the new styles of dog clothing coming out, you’ll notice that they follow what’s hot in the human world of fashion. You can find a nice corduroy dog coat to match the one in your closet, or a dainty summer dog dress that goes perfectly with your summer dress. Doing this may seen crazy to some people, but we dog lovers know it’s just another way to feel closer to our furry little babies.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Clothing : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

Starting a Business in the Dog Clothing Industry: Is Now A Good Time?

Yes. Let me just get that answer out of the way. In a matter of just a few years, dog clothing has grown from obscurity into a booming industry. Millions of dog owners around the country and around the world are willing to pull out their wallets to clothe their furry babies. Even though it takes hard work, the dog clothes industry is booming, and there’s plenty of room for businesses small and large to turn a profit.
First, let’s discuss one of the less glamorous aspects of getting a dog clothing business started – hard work. First of all, you have to set up shop. These days, you can either have a traditional “brick and mortar” store or you could set up an internet business. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but internet businesses are cheaper to run due to the low overhead. This first step can be complex and difficult, so it’s a good idea to get help and research as much as you can before going for it. An educated business owner is a successful business owner. Once you have set up your store you need to do some product sourcing. Look around for good, quality suppliers that can offer you the most for your money. For a dog clothes store, your suppliers must be able to provide fashionable clothing at a decent price and in a timely manner. If you don’t have enough money to buy a lot of inventory yourself, you might want to find a dropshipper. They will ship the product directly to your customer with your company’s info on it. It’s best if you can find a wholesale supplier that also drop ships. Getting everything started can be a daunting task the feels overwhelming, but if you stick to it, then you will be rewarded in the end.
The payoff for all your hard work is worth it. Last year, pet supplies in the U.S. made about $34 billion. That’s a big enough pie for everyone to have a slice. There’s no sign of this popularity fading anytime soon, either. Now it’s hard to flip through TV channels without seeing something about a celebrity buying expensive things for their pets. Thanks to people like Paris Hilton, dog clothes are going to be around for a while.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Clothing : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

Dog Clothes for Large Dogs

People may think that large dogs don’t need dog clothes, but there are situations where they are needed. It can still be fun to dress them up as well. Just because they’re big doesn’t mean they can’t have a pampered wardrobe. Most large dog clothing is made for functional purposes, but it’s good to have fun with it as well.
Large dog clothing serves many useful functions. One of the best examples is raincoats. No matter how big a dog is he’s not going to like being soaked, and a good quality raincoat will keep him dry and happy during his walks in the rain. During the winter, dog boots are a useful item. Often times, the sidewalks and streets are salted or covered with chemicals to melt the ice. These substances can be painful and damaging for your big baby’s paws and can be dangerous if he licks them off himself. Putting durable boots on him will prevent all these problems. These examples show how clothing for large dogs can be a useful and good investment.
When you have a big baby, you can still have tons of fun getting them new threads. One of the best ways to have fun clothing your big dog is through message shirts. There’s a wide variety available with all kinds of phrases and words printed on the back. Some cute examples are messages like “Big Boy” and “Security”. You can also show his cuddly side with one like “hug me” or “You know I’m adorable”. Aside from shirts, you can also get costumes to have fun. This is great for special occasions like Halloween or Christmas when everyone gets dressed up. As you can see, large dog clothing can be both functional and fun.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Clothing : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

Dog Clothes - Dressing Your Pet in the Summer

Summertime is the perfect chance to have some fun showing off how cute your pet is in dog clothes. People and their pets are out, and it’s a great time to socialize and turn some heads. A great thing about summer dog clothes is that they’re so versatile. There are many styles and colors from which to choose. Whether on the beach or at the park, dressing your baby in summer dog clothing gives you many options.
The varieties of dog shirts, jerseys, and raincoats are numerous. You have a choice from shirts with printed messages, polo shirts, tank tops, sports jerseys and just about any other shirt that a human could have. The sports jerseys even come with the logos of professional and college teams. As for the raincoats, these very useful pieces of summer dog clothing also come in a wide variety of colors and styles. They have different levels of thickness for the smaller dogs that get cold easily, but all of them help to keep your pooch dry, which makes everyone’s lives easier. Another important note to make is that putting dog shirts on your dog can help their health. Skin cancer is the most common cancer among dogs, and putting a shirt on them to block harmful UV rays can help reduce their risk.
Dressing your pet in the summer is a fun and special activity. Find just the right outfit for you and your pet’s personality, and go have fun!

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Clothing : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

Small Dog Clothing

Small dogs are wonderful companions, and they look adorable all dressed up. Due to their less than large stature, many of them need some clothes to keep from shivering to death, however, buying small dogs a wardrobe has become an issue of fashion and pampering. Clothing the small dog is all about assessing their needs and then their style.
What kind of clothing does my little baby need? That’s the question on the mind of every doggie parent as they begin shopping. The answer depends of the weather. If it’s winter, then they need coats and sweaters to stay warm during outside walks. Also, many dogs are still cold even indoors, so it’s a good idea to have an “around the house” sweater. When the warm spring and summer roll around, they can go “naked”, but it’s still good to get some shirts. Many short haired breeds like Chihuahuas and Min Pins get cold indoors from the air conditioning, so a shirt or light sweater can come in handy. While the outdoors is very warm, a shirt will protect a dog from sunburn. All you have to do is put sun block where there’s bare skin. Since skin cancer is the most common cancer among dogs, this is a very important step in prevention.
You can give your little one style by expressing their personality through clothing. One easy and fun way to do this is through message shirts. You’ve probably seen them in stores or online with messages varying from “I’m cute” to “spank me”. There is a huge variety of these shirts available, so enjoy looking around for what best represents your little spunky one. If message shirts are not your thing, then perhaps canine couture is the way to go. Canine couture has been gaining popularity and is now a booming business. People can buy high fashion dog clothes right off runway. The problem is, however, that these fashions often cost much more than the average dog parent is prepared to pay. Still, these fancy styles are quite catching and are made of the best quality, just be sure not to pay too much. The fact remains, however, that they do have advantages for pooches. Dog clothing may appear to be an unnecessary luxury, but it does have advantage for dogs such as protection from cold and sunburn.
One major advantage is that dog clothes provide canines small and large with protection from the cold. During those long winter months, the bitter cold is just as uncomfortable and dangerous for dogs as it is for us. Dogs that have on a coat or a sweater feel much better outside and can stand to go for longer walks. This means no one has to sacrifice fresh air or exercise to hide from the weather. This is especially advantageous for small breeds as anyone with a shivering Chihuahua can attest.
Another advantage of dog clothes comes to light during the bright, warm summer days. The problem that many people don’t realize is that dogs are just as susceptible to sunburn as humans. Also, skin cancer is the most common cancer among dogs. Dog clothing such as shirts can help to protect from the sun’s harmful UV rays. It’s also a good idea to put sun block on any exposed skin. Don’t worry, it will absorb quickly into the skin before it gets licked.
For those who are still on the fence with dog clothes, it’s important to look at these facts. They do much more than make a dog look cute and draw attention. They have advantages that help our little friends live better lives.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Clothing : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

Skin Cancer and Your Pets: It's More Common Than You Think

These days, skin cancer is a concern for everyone. It’s easy to go to the grocery store and find a large variety of sun block with all the different SPF levels. It’s not news that ultraviolet radiation is dangerous, but it might be news that it’s just as dangerous for your dog or cat as it is for us.
No one wants to suffer the pain of watching their little one go through skin cancer, so it’s important to take the proper steps to avoid the disease. Skin cancer is surprisingly common in dogs and cats, and the main culprit is the same one for humans…UV radiation. Even though your friend is furry, he or she is still susceptible to overexposure of the sun. Not to worry, though, there are simple and even fun steps one can take to protect their dog or cat.
According to Dr. Ruthanne Chun, assistant professor and oncology researcher at Kansas State’s College of Veterinary Medicine, skin cancer is the most common cancer among dogs and the second most common among cats. For dogs, 450 of every 100,000 will be diagnosed with skin cancer, and for cats it’s 120 of every 100,000.
Just as with humans, UV rays from the sun play a large role in causing skin cancer with dogs and cats. Many owners may think that their dog’s or cat’s coat will protect them, but this is only partially true. Many breeds have short, thin coats and fair skin on their ears and bellies. These areas are in the most danger of developing skin cancer.
Aside from overexposure to UV, other known causes of skin cancer are viruses, hormones, burns, genetics and vaccines (only in cats). Once an owner educates him or herself about these causes, the proper steps can be taken to prevent skin cancer in dogs and cats.
Dr. Mary Bagladi-Swanson, assistant professor at Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, says that one can simply apply an SPF 30 sunblock to their dog’s or cat’s exposed areas. It’s usually best to apply the lotion to the ears, belly and any other bare or barely covered skin. It absorbs into the skin and protects your pet even in they lick it. It’s also a good idea to try and keep your dog or cat out of the sun during the strong hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
Another step you could take involves dog clothing and pet clothing. It’s the same concept for humans: the skin that’s covered by clothing will be protected from the sun. Surfers who take their dogs to the beach with them all day have a special kind of dog clothes called a body suit. If you’re planning on spending a day at the park, then it’s a good idea to consider bringing along some dog clothes or pet clothes like a shirt or hat. If your dog or cat will wear them, then not only will they be cute, they’ll be protected!

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Clothing : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

Dog Clothes-The Ins and Outs

The phenomenon of dog clothing has hit America full force. Last year, our nation spent about 34 billion dollars on pet supplies! The industry is booming, and there’s a chance for businesses small and large to turn a tidy profit.
However, “dog clothes fever” hasn’t yet hit everyone, and there are some that don’t quite understand the concept of clothing dogs. Many are also wondering if the whole industry is one big fad that will pass away in a few years. It’s too early in the game to answer all these questions, but what is for certain is that even though dog clothing is popular because it’s so darn cute, it actually is functional and useful for dogs.
Let’s face it, dog clothes are adorable. Everyone’s faces light up when a little Chihuahua or Yorkie struts by in a cute little dog coat or sweater. Owners love to look at their babies dressed up and they love the attention it brings. So, the purpose of dog clothing could be seen in many cases as purely aesthetic. Another example is summer dog clothes. Dogs don’t need help staying warm during summer unless they’re like my perpetually cold and shivering Chi-chi. So, the only purpose those dog shirts seen at the beach and the park serve is to make people happy. This is not to say that it’s wrong. On the contrary, think about how many products we buy everyday with the sole purpose of making us happy, so don’t be so quick to judge that dog clothes are frivolous and useless.
There are some dog clothes that serve important functions. For example, during the long winter months, a dog’s natural coat is sometimes not enough protection from bitter cold. This is when it’s great to have a dog sweater or dog coat to wrap them up in before going on a walk. For the smaller breeds that have a hard time holding in heat, it’s nice to clothe them even when they’re inside. Other clothing like dog boots also help when the sidewalks and streets have been salted or sprayed with de-icing chemicals. It can be very painful and even harmful if your little baby gets these things in their paws. One thing is for certain, whether they’re fashionable or functional, dog clothes are here to stay.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Clothing : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

To Mutt or Not to Mutt - The Pros and Cons of Purebred Dogs

When most people think of a purebred dog, they think of words like ideal, perfection, excellent, pretty, etc. However, these descriptions turn out to be far from the truth. Many pure breeds are racked with genetic disorders that bring much harm to the dogs. Purebred dogs may be considered extra special because their breed has been crafted over generations by the hand of man, but as with many things crafted by the hand of man, nature has proven it can do a much better job.
The reason pure breeds have so many genetic problems stems from something that can affect any species: inbreeding. All breeds can be traced back either to a specific mating or group of dogs. This means that through the generations, individuals had to be crossed with relatives to propagate the breed. So, even today if you mate two pugs chances are they’re at least distant cousins. In nature, individuals select mates based on health and ability to get resources. When they reproduce, bad genes in one get covered by good genes in the other. This way, each new generation is as strong and adaptable as possible.
So, the question you have to ask yourself is; “do I want a healthy, intelligent, well-balanced dog or do I want a specifically designed dog that may or may not have genetic disorders” However, it’s important to note that I’ve met many wonderful purebred dogs, and I even own two pure Chihuahuas myself. My point is that when you go with a purebred, you are taking a risk of the dog having complications that are avoidable in a mutt. This means more vet bills and heartbreak for you and your family. So, before you decide you must have that Cocker Spaniel or Dalmation, at least look at what dogs need a home from your local shelter or pound. If more people did this, it would be better for us and the dogs.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Sweaters : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

The Perfect Pet for Your Family

Pets are popular with humans for good reason. From the time the first dogs were domesticated to the current day menagerie of mammals, reptiles and birds, pets have been an invaluable addition to our lives.
Many people may think it unwise to have babies and pets under one roof. While safety measures should be taken, research has shown that getting a pet for your children can teach them valuable life lessons and give them self-esteem. When you have an infant, you do need to be selective in what pet your family has. Cats and dogs are obviously the most popular and tame pets, but even they carry issues. Cats have mixed reactions to babies. A great deal depends on the personality of the cat, so watch him or her closely when you bring baby home. Dogs have a pack centered mindset, so they will probably view the infant as a new pup in the group. The best dog breeds to get are: Affenpinscers, Basset Hounds, Bichon Frise, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Collies, Golden or Lab Retrievers, Poodles, Pugs and Schnauzers. These are just suggestions, so if you have an extraordinarily sweet dog or cat who has no problem with baby’s arrival, you obviously have nothing to worry about. A good general safety guideline is to never leave the pet alone with baby.
If a dog or cat will not work, there are other pets your family can have. Some good suggestions are: guinea pigs, birds and the classic fish. Rabbits can be good but not for children under 7.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Sweaters : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

Dog Clothes-Choosing with Perfection

Purchasing small dog clothes is easier than it seems, once you know the basic rules for your breed. It's much like picking out clothes for yourself. Moreover, it's simply an attention to the miniature detail. Quality accents like hoods, belts, or trimmings can make or break dog clothes. When purchasing small dog clothes moms and dads need to pay attention that the proportions of the piece of small dog clothing is correct. It's an obvious fact that small dogs are shaped differently than large dogs, and the detail in the small dog clothing should reflect that.

Different breeds' beauty shines in different kinds of dog clothing. Small dogs such as Shih-Tzus and Pekingese look fantastic with accessories because of their long hair. Delicate ribbons, fancy bandannas, leather collars and leashes are the best way to dress up these small dogs. Whereas Chihuahuas and Miniature Pinshers can pretty much make any piece of small dog clothing look fantastic. Also, because of Chihuahuas constant loss of heat resulting in constant shivering, a hand made small dog sweater is a must. Well groomed small dogs such as Terriers should wear small dog clothes that show off their legs, and fantastic grooming.

When picking small dog clothes, it's also great to remember what is neccessary for your small dog's breed. As mentioned before a small dog sweater is a must have for all toy and tiny breeds. A small dog coat is also great for those doggies in colder climates or regions with snow. Also, small dogs will not step foot outside without a proper raincoat to protect them. When picking out small dog clothes, remember to have fun! Pay attention to all the beautiful miniature detail, and use the detail to make your little one stand out.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Sweaters : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

How to Take Care of Your Pet When Disaster Strikes

When disaster strikes, it's important to have the right emergency pet supplies on hand to help your pets survive. Many people may not like to think about it, but if the proper preparations are not made, there is little chance any pets can survive a natural or man made disaster. Animals are not allowed in emergency shelters due to public health and safety reasons, and statistics show that 90% of animals left to fend for themselves in a disaster do not survive. It's very important to take steps to protect your little loved one. The best way to protect your pet from disaster is to be prepared with emergency pet supplies and to have a plan of action.

You should always have some emergency pet supplies set aside in case disaster strikes. Have at least a week's worth of food and water ready and some treats. If you know you're going to be gone all day, then you might consider leaving them enough food and water for the whole day, so even if you can't get home for a while because of a disaster you know they won't be starving. Be sure to have a first aid kit for both you and your pets. In cases of disasters causing extreme cold, like a blizzard, have warm dog clothes on hand. Also, to be ready for evacuation you need to have a good pet carrier. It should be durable, comfortable and spacious, like the Ultimate Sherpa Pet Carrier. No matter when disaster may hit, if the right pet supplies are one hand you increase your dog or cat's survival chances greatly.

Aside from having the right pet supplies, you should be ready with a plan of action for any disaster. In hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes you should have a predetermined safe place. Emergency shelters may not take animals, but there are certain animal shelters or animal friendly shelters that can provide help. If you're away from home when disaster strikes, have a friend or neighbor you can call to go to your pet. It's very important that you be prepared to perform any necessary first aid on your pet as it may be impossible to get them to a vet clinic. If your pet stops breathing or if their heart stops, you can perform CPR to resuscitate them. Basically, you should remember the ABC's of first aid:A - Airway: Make sure their airway is clear. Pull the tongue forward and remove any blocking objects. B - Breathing: Hold a mirror, shiny object or cotton ball in front of their nose to determine if they're still breathing. If not, place your mouth over their nose and blow until you see their chest expand, and then let go to let the air flow out. Do this for 10-20 times a minute. C - Circulation: Press your ear firmly to their chest to listen for a pulse. If there's no pulse, then put the heel of one hand just behind the left elbow and place your other hand over it. Press downward and forward at about 100 times a minute, towards the neck. To restart both breathing and pulse, do heart massage for 15 seconds and move on to breathing for 10 seconds. This may bruise or even crack the ribs of your pet, but it's necessary to save their life. With the right preparation, emergency pet supplies and plan of action, you and your pet can live a happy and healthy life no matter what disasters come your way.

Visit Little Pampered Pets for Dog Clothes and Small Dog Sweaters : Spoil the Pet...Go Easy on Your Wallet Visit Elizabeth Austin Wholesale for Wholesale Dog Clothes and Wholesale Pet Supplies

Dog Clothes for Winter

The signs are all there. When deciding on a new puppy, there are more factors than "how much is that doggie in the window". Puppies require commitment, patience, time and money. Each Christmas, doggie sales and adoptions soar! Even though your intentions are good, never surprise someone with a new puppy or dog unless you are positive they want one. Your gift not only brings cute unconditional love, but a commitment including training time and a good amount of money! Fido for Christmas sounds great, but after the holiday, far too many unwanted pets are returned or dumped. So, it's always a good idea to go over Santa's head and allow your loved one in on the ownership decision.

There are many other factors to getting a new puppy. How will your new dog affect your existing pets? It's important to know if your pets have been socialized with other dogs. When choosing a puppy consider your job and other commitments. Dogs are pack animals and need attention as much as food and water. The easiest way to upset your dog and cause permanent damage is to habitually ignore it. The most important time in a puppy's life is between 3 and 12 weeks. During this time a new puppy learns about you, the house rules and their surroundings. A new puppy that is neglected can become aggressive, so make sure you're ready to fit them into your life. Make sure you factor in how much time you need to train your new puppy. This is crucial to your future relationship with the dog. Remember, owners that have an unruly pet have no one else to blame but themselves, and most behavior problems are caused by neglect. New Moms and Dads should also consider the cost of a new puppy. As mentioned before, the cost of owning a dog is nothing to ignore. Pet supplies, puppy toys, training, and veterinary care can cost hundreds of dollars each year.

The decision to get a new puppy needs to be well thought out, weighing both the pros and cons. If you choose to accept this mission you will be rewarded more than words could say. Finding the perfect companion is fun and exciting for the whole family. Your furry family member will surely bring you joy, unconditional love and companionship for many years to come.

Check out Little Pampered Pets for Holiday Dog Clothes for the new addition to the your family!
©copyright Little Pampered Pets 2004

Let Dogs Be Dogs

Many dog owners love to dress up their little pooches in small dog clothes, and we're no exception. Our Chihuahuas, Sox and Bruiser, have just as many small dog clothes and small dog sweaters as any other pampered pup. Dressing up little dogs can have a very important function, especially in the harsh cold of winter. Dog booties can protect paws from rock salt and collections of ice in between toes. Small dog sweaters and dog coats protect thin coated breeds form losing too much heat to the freezing wind and ward off frost bite. They also help small dogs in warmer climates that stay inside very air conditioned houses. Having the right small dog clothes is an important step in keeping your little one safe and warm through winter.

Even with the functions small dog clothing serves, there is a point where dressing up your dogs can go too far. Putting a dog costume on them one night for a Halloween or Christmas party is fine, but putting dog clothes and booties on them everyday can be detrimental. When the weather isn't cold, dog clothes can lead to overheating, and the excessive bootie wear can soften the natural calluses on a dog's paws. Softened paws become sore easily and are
more susceptible to damage. We tend to project
human status onto our dogs, but sometimes it's best to just let dogs be dogs.

To find fun and safe dog clothes visit Little Pampered Pets ©copyright Little Pampered Pets 2004

Fashion vs. Function in Dog Clothes

Don't Let Your Dog Freeze this Winter!

These days, dog clothes have become popular items among dog owners, but are they really necessary or completely frivolous? The answer depends on several factors including the type of dog clothing and its purpose. In the case of Halloween or Christmas costumes, the dog clothes obviously exist solely for the enjoyment of the owner and other dog lovers and not for the dog's benefit. However, when winter hits, even the experts agree that dogs need extra protection from the cold. Dr. Bruce Fogle, author of several dog books, says "Small dogs and delicate breeds with thin single coats may need additional protection from the winter rain and cold." For this purpose a quality small dog sweater can be very beneficial to small breeds like Chihuahuas that lose heat quickly and easily. Many people say they disagree with the idea of dressing up dogs, but as it has been proven there, many times dog clothes, i.e. dog sweaters serve a necessary function besides making dogs look cute.
Another popular item to buy among dog owners is an accessory. Just like dog clothing, the usefulness of an accessory depends on its purpose. For instance, a bandanna is not going to be of use to a dog, but booties can be. City dwellers know that when winter weather ices over the sidewalks, rock salt is poured out by the bag. The problem with rock salt is that it can cause a dog's feet to bleed and the salt itself can get in the wound and cause further irritation. Booties solve this problem and are easier to use than reapplying wax. Even Dr. Fogle says that "if winter is particularly harsh where you live, you could consider insulated boots for your dog." So, if you're having reservations about getting your best friend some dog clothes, just remember the benefits they are going to get.
To get great Dog Clothes for any occasion visit : Little Pampered Pets
©copyright Little Pampered Pets 2004

How to Buy Small Dog Clothes

Well groomed small dogs such as Terriers should wear small dog clothes that show off their legs, and fantastic grooming
.When picking small dog clothes, it's also great to remember what is neccessary for your small dog's breed.
©copyright Little Pampered Pets 2004

Emergency Pet Supplies

Be prepared when disaster strikes

Basically, you should remember the ABC's of first aid:
A - Airway: Make sure their airway is clear.

For more information on your pets vistit Little Pampered Pets
©copyright Little Pampered Pets 2004

Dog Clothes: Fashion Guide

Dress Your Pampered Pet like the Stars Do!
What High Priced Pet Boutiques Don't Want You to Know:
Dog clothing is extremely hot this season. One can't help noticing the rise in celebrities with fashionable small dogs at their side. With a sea of dog clothes, it's hard to know what dog clothes are in and what dog clothes, as Hillary Duff's Dachshund would say, are "so yesterday". Legally Blonde's Chihuahua, Bruiser, set the standard in dog fashion while dogs like Paris Hilton's dog, Tinkerbell, keeps raising the bar higher and higher. I think their is an important fact to remember when dressing up your dog this season. Let your dog be a dog. As much as it makes us happy to dress them up, we have to make sure the dog clothes are functional and keep their best interest at heart. That said, here are the must haves for any pampered pooches closet.Every small dog must have a small dog sweater this season. They are functional in that they keep the tiny and toy breeds warm, like Chihuahuas and miniature Pinsher yet fashionable as they showcase your dog's explosive personality. Dog Sweaters are mostly hand made and come in a plethora of variations. Just pick a small dog sweater that says who your little precious dog is and you can't go wrong. A holiday dog sweater is a must have this season. This year let your dog "deck the halls" in a Christmas tree dog sweater or a solid red or green small dog sweater.Another must have in my opinion is a dog coat. This is especially true to those dogs in colder climates. Dog coats have come far from some random unattractive pieces of material sewn together. There are raincoats, fleece dog coats, sweat shirts and even leather dog coats. Find a dog jacket or small dog coat that is both functional and fashionable. If you'd like to dress up a long hair breed like a Shih-Tzu or Terrier try accessorising them. Contrary to what you see on "celebrity dogs" bows are not the most comfortable thing you could put on a dog. Detailed bandannas are in this season and are much more comfortable than bows. Another way to dress up your little one is with a beautiful dog collars and leash. This season, think leather. A leather collar is a classic. Most importantly, remember this season is about dog fashion, not about breaking the bank. There's no reason why you should pay over $30 for any of the items mentioned. Even though clothing for dogs are small and detailed, they're relatively inexpensive to make. Don't be fooled by stores trying to make you pay a hundred or even hundreds of dollars for these miniature pieces of dog clothing. As I said, dog clothes need to be functional. Dogs need to be dogs, not art pieces or accessories. One has to understand dogs don't understand the value of the piece of dog clothing you have bought them. Don't be surprised when they tear up the rhinestone encrusted dog sweater you were duped into buying. This season be smart and have fun. Use dog clothes and dog fashion to highlight the love of your life's personality.
To find fashionable Dog Clothing that won't break the bank visit Little Pampered Pets
©copyright Little Pampered Pets 2004

Small Dog Sweaters

A small dog sweater is a great way to show off your small dog's or puppy's personality. Adorable small dog sweaters can say a lot about a dog, keep them warm and cause your little dog to shine. For example, a sassy little girl that loves to be the center of attention can't go wrong with a Pink Small Dog Sweater, whereas if your little baby girl is dainty, the best small dog sweater to go with is one with delicate flowers and intricate details. A hyper boy who wants to cause a ruckus should stick with Solid Colored Small Dog Sweaters to showcase their bold personality whereas the highly intelligence dog needs more attention to detail to show off his studious nature.
Small dog sweaters are also great for holidays. Dressing your little dog in holiday themed small dog sweaters can be a treat for everyone. There are many Small Dog Christmas Sweaters that will shower your dog with yuletide cheer. Pastel Small Dog Sweaters are a must have for Easter and spring. On the other hand, Red, Pink and Heart small dog sweaters mark the coming of Valentine's Day. For Fourth of July celebrations, a red, white or blue small dog sweater will do, or if your little dog has an eye for detail, an American themed dog sweater is perfect. Either way, when choosing a small dog sweater, remember your little one's bubbling personality. Most of all, have fun!
©copyright Little Pampered Pets 2004

Puppy Care and Kitty Care Pet Supplies

What You Need to Know About Your New Puppy or Kitty
It's important to have the right pet supplies and knowledge for proper puppy care and kitty care. Just as a child's body is different from an adult's, a dog's or cat's body is very different when it's young. A young pet has special nutritional, physical and even mental needs, so a responsible owner must have the pet supplies needed before the little one joins the family.

During their first year, the most important pet supply to have on hand is food. It's well known that puppies and kittens burn calories and protein at a much higher rate than adults because of their accelerated growth. The reason why they have this accelerated growth is because it served their ancestors well in the wild. Back then, a young pup or cub would be easy prey, so they had to mature quickly and have offspring of their own to propagate the species. Make sure to buy from a reputable quality pet supply store and get the food that's made specifically for puppies and kittens.

Aside from food, the other pet supplies that are a necessity are dog toys and cat toys. In addition to physical growth, puppies and kittens learn things during their first year that stay with them for life.
The first year is crucial in molding a cat's or dog's behavior, so it's important to interact with them. One of the best ways to interact with them is through playtime. Playing is good exercise for them (and you), and it teaches them that humans are friends and companions. Sadly, those pets abused during this time are often scarred for life, and have serious trust issues. Whatever pet toy you get, make sure it's not too small so that they won't swallow it. For puppies, a Kong dog toy is a good investment because it's durable and won't mess up your house. Playing "tug-o-war" with a rope puppy toy is a good way to build their strength and confidence, too. For kittens, try a cat toy with bright colors. It's important to get cat toys that will safely satisfy their natural curiosity.

Since house breaking and litter box training are essential, the proper pet supplies for this need to be on hand from day one. Get a small dog crate and hold your puppy in it overnight and for periods when you can't watch them. They instinctively don't want to go in their own area, so you can use that to your advantage. Take them straight from the dog crate to outside, and they'll eventually get the idea. For cats, be sure to get a quality litter box and give your cat their own space. Cats naturally want to dig when they eliminate, so just keep showing them the litter box after they eat. It might be a good idea to get a small pet crate for your cat as well if you plan on traveling with him or her. An extra safety tip for cat owners is to keep cats away from the dryer machine. Cats like being in cozy, closed off places, and they will jump in the dryer when your not looking, which can lead to disaster. With these pet supplies and the proper care, any puppy or kitten will grow to be a happy and healthy pet.

©copyright Little Pampered Pets 2004

Choosing the Right Dog Treat or Treat For Your Cat

The basic guidelines of dog and cat dietary needs:
When owners give their dog a dog treat, many don't consider what went into making it. The same goes for cat treats. The fact is that cat and dog dietary needs are very different. A dog's diet is similar to our own in that they are omnivorous, meaning they need both meat and other ingredients like grains and vegetables to have optimum health. When buying dog food or dog treats, make sure it has a proper balance of protein and both soluble and insoluble fiber. If you really want to pamper your pooch, you can even make a gourmet dog treat yourself with a dog treat recipe, or make your dog a dinner of chicken or fish and rice. One very important topic to address is the use of animal bones like beef and chicken bones. While dogs may love getting them, they can shard teeth and cause damage to a dog's stomach and intestine. If you insist on giving them animal bones, it's best to get your dog used to chewing on them as a puppy, however it's safest just to give them regular dog treats like a rawhide bone or a Nylabone. Also, it's important to remember that colored treats are made to attract you, not for your dog's health. The dye in the treats can be harmful, so it's actually best to get natural treats.
Cats are 95% carnivorous, so they must have a diet high in protein. The ideal example of a cat diet is in fact the mouse. Steve Duno, author of the KISS Guide to Cat Care, says The mouse is the perfect cat food. All other cat food, whether dry or canned commercial or homemade, try to replicate the perfect nutrition present in the mouse. As gross as this may sound, the principle is true. So, the important thing to remember when getting or making a treat for your cat is that it must be high in protein and have the proper amount of calories depending on the cats lifestyle and needs.
©copyright Little Pampered Pets 2004

Traveling with a Pet Carrier

How having the right Small Dog Carrier, Cat Carrier or Dog Crate makes a world of difference in safety and comfort for traveling with your Pet

For owners who like to keep their pampered pets near them wherever they go, pet carriers are the perfect solution. For those pets that must travel in the cargo, a quality dog crate is the safest way to go. These days, flying with your dog or cat is easier than ever before. However, air travel with your dog or cat comes with its own set of challenges, and it's best to be prepared to reduce stress for both you and your pet on traveling day. First of all, all airline policies are different concerning pet travel and you need reservations. Be sure to ask what kind of pet carriers they accept or try our Sherpa Delta pet carrier and the Sherpa Backpack which are airline approved. Also, it's important to ask what documents the airline requires such as vaccination records or a health certificate. So whether you're traveling with a pet carrier or a dog crate, preparation is key.
Even with all your preparation, fear of flying can still be an issue for your dog or cat. Our Chihuahua, Sox has anxiety every time we fly even though he sits right at our feet. At first, we thought of giving him tranquilizers, but we learned that tranquilizers shouldn't be given to pets before boarding because they can increase the dog's risks of accidents and can make it hard for them to adjust to temperature changes and turbulence. Worst of all, they can impede breathing. The before the flight.
Whether using a dog crate or pet carrier, it's a good idea to get your dog used to it for about a month before your travel date. To make the flight easier on your dog, don't feed him for 4 to 6 hours before, but small amounts of water are fine. Just in case your dog should get lost in the airport, it's a good idea to carry a picture of him or her.
Every time you fly with your pet, you have a choice between taking them on board with you in a small dog carrier (unless they're a large breed, of course) or putting them in the cargo. Cargo holds can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter, and the Humane Society of the United States strongly recommends that you not ship your dog in the cargo unless there is no alternative. Each year there are fatal accidents when, because of runway delays, dogs suffer heat stroke in the bottom of airplanes. In fact, most airlines refuse to check dogs between May and September. If you must use the cargo, then here are some safety tips: 1. Use a direct flight2. Travel on the same flight and ask to watch while he is being loaded and unloaded.3. DO NOT ship pug-nosed dogs such as Pekingese, Pugs, Bulldogs & Chow Chows. Their short nasal passages are vulnerable to oxygen deprivation and heatstroke.4. If traveling during summer choose early morning or late evening flights. In winter, afternoon flights are best.5. Attach 2 pieces of I. D. to their collar 1) Permanent address and phone no. 2) address and no. where you can be reached while away from home.6. Don't leave anything in the dog crate the dog can choke on.
7. Make sure crate door is secure. Above door write "Do Not open this door with out permission from owner or licensed vet."8. Arrive 1/2 hour earlier than normal but don't let them take the dog until the last minute.9. NO SEDATIVES - important to reiterate
Be sure to put ID on both the dog and the outside of the dog crate. If you can't get a direct flight, make sure you have a long enough lay over to walk your dog. Also, make absolutely sure that the dog crate is large enough for your dog to turn around with ease. The best crates for space and quality are our Kennel dog crates.
For those who are definitely taking their dogs or cats in the passenger cabin, the Sherpa pet carrier is preferable to a hard sided pet crate. Sherpa pet carriers have mesh panels to prevent claustrophobia, a reinforced bottom, an adjustable shoulder strap that doubles as a leash and a roomy zippered pocket for your pet's travel essentials. The Sherpa pet carrier have accommodating sizes, are approved by airlines and are ideal as cat carriers and small dog carriers. You need to make sure your puppy has something to play with, or he will create his own chew toys...like your expensive shoes.
This simple fact hides behind it a long list of benefits for the dog that have nothing to do with playtime. Playtime is actually quite serious because of its importance to puppy development. It helps develop communication and creates bonds with other puppies, and it helps them practice and develop physical and mental activities and abilities. When puppies play with each other or dog toys they improve their manual dexterity, coordination, and they develop their forepaws grasp and shoulder muscles. Some people believe that games such as "tug of war" with a tennis tugger rope dog toy causes aggression. Experts agree that games such as this build confidence and strength as long as play isn't too rough. Just be sure to let the puppy win sometimes. One of the best ways to ensure safe play is by giving your puppy toys.

Out of all the things an owner can give a puppy, dog toys are one of the most important. It's important to remember that dogs need and love to chew. When you first get your puppy, buy
him/her 3 quality puppy toys. The best kind of toy to get is the Kong dog toy. Cis Frankel, author of Urban Dog, says that "Kong is durable and won't scratch or mar walls and floors." It comes in several choices like the our Kong biscuit ball or Air Kong Donut. Other good choices besides the include stuffed toys, tennis balls, plastic balls and meat flavored rawhide bones. However, when buying rawhide, avoid getting it from countries where unknown preservatives may have been used. These toys aid in fighting destructive chewing by providing the puppy an alternative to your furniture. You can also apply taste deterrents to objects you want to protect.

Some important tips in playing with your puppy is to make a separation in the toys. Chew able toys like Kong dog toy belong to your dog. Keep them out for your puppy to play with whenever he wants. Chasing and squeaking toys stay out of
puppy's reach and only come out for playtime. That makes the toys more interesting and communicates your authority.

My Silly Chihuahuas

I read a great book recently called The Secret Life of Dogs. In it, the author observed her dogs over their lifetime and came up with some amazing conclusions about how domesticated dogs still operate under the primal code of the wolf pack. With this new information in mind, I have started observing our Chihuahuas, Sox and Bruiser, much more closely now. We just got Bruiser a few months ago, and from the time he arrived I could tell there was a contest for dominance. I know they see my wife and me as the "dominant pair" to put it in pack terms (At least I hope they do). However, they seem to disagree over who's ranked third and fourth in the family. I never realized how important this is to a dog. They're whole life is literally shaped by what their place is in the pack. This explains the constant stealing of toys and mounting that goes on between the two boys. Even simple things like rawhide bones have become territory and possesions to be fought over. The fighting has rarely become vicious, and it usually consists of the two of them racing to see who gets the piece of bacon that fell to the ground or hording all of the bones. Researchers say that it is the same way for wolves. Vicious fighting could lead to injury and death, which would weaken the pack, so contests for dominance become more ritualistic than anything. It's quite amazing to see these ancient canine behaviors coming through in two little lap dogs. Hopefully they'll come to a conclusion soon. They're going to flip when we actually have kids.

Has the Obesity Epidemic Reached America’s Pets?

Many Americans today live with being overweight or obese, and recent studies show that America’s pets are now suffering from these problems as well. Obesity became a serious problem for Americans in the 1990's when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found a 61% rise in the number of obese Americans and a 49% rise in the number of Americans with diabetes. These data are directly related to the fact that during this rise, 27.3% of people did not engage in any physical activity at all. It seems that Americans just don’t like or don’t have time for exercising. The average American diet only makes the situation worse. The enormous fast food industry has become an unhealthy pillar of American culture over the past decade. The crucial difference between human and Pet Obesity is that pets don’t have control over their diet or exercise program. People that abuse their own bodies with poor food and exercise choices seem to be passing that abuse on to their pets. The National Academy of Science said that today 1 in 4 pets are overweight while other surveys say that as many as 40% of dogs and 12% of cats presented at clinics are either overweight or obese. It seems as though American’s bad lifestyle habits have started to affect man’s best friends. Many medical problems have been linked to obesity both in humans and animals. Heart disease and diabetes are just a few ailments on a long list of problems related to being overweight. Pets are known to also suffer from joint disease, stroke and fatigue at much higher rates when overweight. So what can pet owner’s do to help their furry loved ones live longer, healthier lives? It boils down to the same to the same two things for Americans and their pets, diet and exercise.

For any weight loss program, human or animal, diet is the first essential part. The first step is to consult with a veterinarian to ensure that the weight gain is not related to a medical condition such as hypothyroidism. The vet will also help construct a diet plan specific to the pets needs. A common misconception is that healthy dogs and cats must eat every day when in fact they do not. Smaller breeds are an exception, but even then pet owners must take care not to overfeed. This being said, the easiest way to cut calories is to simply reduce the amount the pet eats. One method is to reduce a pet’s daily food intake by one third. If in two weeks there is no weight loss, then the amount should be reduced by a third again until results are seen. It may seem cruel, but it’s crucial to remember that they will live much better lives for it. Things such as sugary foods and table scraps should never be allowed in a pet’s diet, and pet treats should be given in moderation. Another issue to consider is the effectiveness of specially formulated, low-calorie pet food. With the rise of Pet Obesity, pet food companies raced to offer the public low-calorie alternatives. Some veterinarians say the low fat and high fiber content is beneficial, however, there are others that attest the amount of carbohydrates is far too high. As many low-carb dieters know, high carbs equal high insulin levels which leads to the storage of fat.

The other necessary part of battling pet obesity is to increase their daily amount of exercise. This means giving more walks for dogs and more playtime for cats and dogs. While it’s suggested that people work out 30 minutes most days of the week, dogs need about 45 minutes to an hour of good exercise every day. This requires commitment and love on the part of the owner, but as an incentive, the pets who don’t exercise have been shown to shorten their life span by as much as two years and suffer many more ailments. Besides walking, playtime is an excellent opportunity for pet exercise and for human entertainment. This is as simple as investing in good <a href="<http://www.littlepamperedpets.com/pettoys.html">pet toys. For cats, cat nip toys have been shown to especially encourage a flurry of activity. If an owner sticks to giving their pet the best diet and exercise, they will enrich the pet’s life and their own as well.

The Pet Supplies you need to help your pet live a healthy life can be found at Little Pampered Pets. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) estimates on their web site that "In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can theoretically produce 420,000 cats, one female dog & her offspring can theoretically produce 67,000 dogs."

With these numbers, it's easy to see how our nation is facing an overpopulation problem among stray cats and dogs. The saddest part is that the strays are the ones that suffer the most. The HSUS also "estimates the number of cats and dogs entering shelters each year between 8 to 10 million, with 4 to 5 million being euthanized." All of these pointless deaths were caused because people chose not to spay or neuter their pets. It's ironic how such a simple decision can have such a huge impact.

If these scary statistics aren't enough to convince you of the need for spaying and neutering, then you should know that your pets will have longer and healthier lives after the procedure. Those pets who aren't fixed live at a high risk of developing either testicular or ovarian cancer among other related diseases. Many people ask the question "why should I spay or neuter?". In light of this information, the real question should be "how can I not spay or neuter, when there is so much suffering of innocent animals in this country?"

Let me know what you think. Please add any comments you may have about spaying and neutering.

Grant Carroll
Find Pet Supplies - at Little Pampered Pets.com
